The Philippine National Museum

A trip to every country should include a trip to its museums and a trip to the Philippines then should have the National Museum on the itinerary.  Here is why:

This museum clearly depicts Filipino history and heritage through the showcase of different cultural treasures. Tourists and guests can have a view of the different art galleries, artifacts, antique coins and jewelries and other ancient ornaments which dates back 17th century. The National Museum of the Philippines was established to teach and educate Filipino people about the historical background of the country.  The objective lies and focuses on the premise of preservation and protection of the Philippine’s cultural legacy. The Museum serves as a cultural center for education, history and holds the National Art Gallery. The National Museum of the Philippines occupies the Old Congress Building and was the original seat of the Senate and office of the Department of Finance.

The Museum also aims to help in the organization of art exhibits, interviews and lectures on the different phases of cultural history and scientific artifacts.  Since it was established in 1901, it has already become the house of the Anthropology and Archaeology Division of the Philippines.  The main building of the Museum was designed by Architect Daniel Burnham in 1918.

If you visit the place you will pass a hallway that can lead you to the amazing exhibits.  There is a display of a native Nipa hut, also known as the national house of the Filipino people, which hosts a complete display of various things and interesting pieces our ancestors had been using.  The next floor showcased the history of the coming of the Spanish vessels, those who where in one way or another was involved in barter and trades. The third floor consists of three galleries: The Origin which explains the history of the origin of the Philippines and the people; second gallery also known as the Filipinos Today which features the diversities of our culture through the influence of foreign countries. The fourth gallery is the Archaeological Treasures which depicted and displayed the burial ajr collection of our forefathers and teaches the significance of a burial practice.

Upon entering the last floor, two galleries were projected namely the Kisame, that highlighted loads and tons of photographs of ceiling paintings with Bohol colonial churches as the subject which clearly reflects the religious convictions of the Filipinos; and the Biodiversity Exhibit which featured the variety of fauna and flora in the Philippines. The National Museum of the Philippines is clearly an official repository of the history of the Philippines and the Filipino people.
